LOAD

Load source system metadata for browsing and design.

The connection objects allow data warehouse designers to load source system metadata into the RED Repository™, browse the source systems providing data for the data warehouse, and begin the process of creating load tables and target schema – with real-time business analyst involvement if required.

FAQ ANSWERS - Does WhereScape RED support incremental loading of source data?

Yes. WhereScape RED provides a flexible framework to identify new and changed data on source systems. The specific method utilized will depend on the source system itself.

FAQ ANSWERS - Will WhereScape RED impact the performance of my source system?

Minimally – and only during an extract.  WhereScape RED has been designed to minimize the workload and impact on the source system during an extract.  No processing is performed on the source system beyond a simple read of singular database tables.

FAQ ANSWERS - Can a designer browse the entire source system?

It depends.  The designer can browse tables, table structures, indexes and data in all areas of the source system visible to the credentials used to access the system. WhereScape RED does not override the source system security model in any way.

FAQ ANSWERS - What about data elements not contained within the source systems?

WhereScape RED provides complete support for the creation of aggregates, other kinds of roll-ups, synthetic dimensions and other types of data elements not directly provided by the source system.

FAQ ANSWERS - Can WhereScape RED extract data from SAP?

Yes.  When information from SAP is required in an integrated enterprise data warehouse managed by WhereScape RED, the built-in SAP extractors and any pre-built application packs are leveraged by extracting from SAP’s own Business Warehouse (SAP BW).
