WhereScape Vision and Value

Pinned to the wall in our founder's office is an old piece of paper.  It's faded and tatty, but for us at WhereScape it's a kind of manifesto.

Scribbled on this paper are the four things that WhereScape founder Michael Whitehead said he never wanted to hear again from a customer...

This piece of paper led us to the four key premises, which in turn led to the development of WhereScape RED.

These four key premises have helped us stay focused on our customer's needs, and have certainly contributed to WhereScape RED's phenomenal success.

  • The ideal approach to development is iterative
  • Developers like it all to be in one workbench
  • Everyone wants results, fast
  • Each to their own process

Fast underlines everything we do - we want to help our customers to build the best data warehouses on the planet, fast.

What characterizes the best data warehouses? Simplistically...they deliver value to their users.  How do we help?  By enabling them to get to that value quicker.

Of course the best data warehouses excel on other measures too:  They are built efficiently using the appropriate level of resource - they shouldn't cost too much.  They should stay relevant across time. As requirements change, as some users get more sophisticated and newer people are introduced for the first time, as business conditions change and as priorities evolve the data warehouse should continue to be a key and relevant platform. They should be easy to manage - data warehousing is a process not a project.
