Data warehousing company Wherescape won the prestigious Judge’s Supreme Award for International Business at the 2016 New Zealand International Business Awards.

The award was presented by New Zealand Prime Minister John Key at a glamorous black tie event in Auckland.

The company, which also won the Best Medium Business award, develops software for organisations to manage and analyse their crown jewels – big sets of data.

Based in Auckland and Portland, Oregon, WhereScape has customers in 26 countries and recently expanded into Asia where it has attracted some high profile brands including Chanel. The United States is the company’s largest and fastest growing market, where its clients include GE, Nike, and the Dallas Cowboys.

NZTE Chief Executive Peter Chrisp said: “The supreme winner WhereScape exemplifies all of the attributes it takes for a Kiwi business to succeed internationally, and is agile and quick to evolve and meet its customers’ needs in the global data automation software market.”

The judges were impressed by WhereScape’s ability to turn big data into big business.

“Their clever transition from a product company to a global sales organisation has allowed them to exploit the global opportunity for data analytics, right at the time when expertise in big data is most sought after,” said judge, David Downs.

Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce has also congratulated WhereScape Software for winning the coveted award.

“WhereScape has had a global mindset from day one and an ambition to achieve international success. It is a resilient, flexible and innovative company with excellent growth prospects,” Mr Joyce says.

WhereScape are honoured to have received such prestigious awards.

"It has taken a lot of hard work over the years to get here, but it certainly has not been all WhereScape. We have been very blessed to have had the continued support of many loyal customers over the years.  Not only support in terms of using our software and services, but also in the relationships that have been formed, helping us develop into the company we have become," said WhereScape's Head of Sales, New Zealand.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the New Zealand International Business Awards, which celebrate the success of New Zealand businesses on the world stage and are run by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise with strategic partner ANZ.
