WhereScape Announces the Release of RED 10.0.0.0
WhereScape is pleased to announce the general availability of WhereScape RED 10.0.0.0. This release is the culmination of man-years of effort. It confirms WhereScape’s commitment to continuing to develop new technologies and tools and its commitment to delivering the best data automation solution in the world.
RED 10 is a major release with many key features that will greatly increase the productivity of data developers, reduce risks in IT data projects, scale with new technologies, and allow you to own your data.
Unified Metadata
With this release of RED, all metadata created by WhereScape is now stored in a PostgreSQL database, regardless of the target! This lowers the cost of ownership, as the metadata repository no longer requires a separate vendor license and can be provisioned and maintained as a cloud-based server. The requirements for the new PostgreSQL repository are extremely minimal. This database can also be used to hold the metadata repository for WhereScape’s 3D design tool. Another key benefit is the ease with which you can now switch targets. Technology evolution does not stop. Who knows what technologies and targets you may be using in five years? With WhereScape you have the confidence that your current work will easily migrate to a new target.
Cross-Platform Scheduler
RED 10 introduces a new external cross-platform scheduler for the orchestration of data warehouse workloads. The new scheduler is a customized version of Azkaban, a distributed Workflow Manager, implemented at LinkedIn. WhereScape’s customized version includes support for both Linux and Windows job execution and utilizes PostgreSQL as the metadata platform.
RED’s move towards an external scheduler is the first step in decoupling the RED development engine from orchestration and paves the way for other scheduler integrations in the future. This release of RED introduces Action Scripts (generated by templates) which implement the task actions available to each object via the external scheduler.
The new scheduler comes with a web-based dashboard for job visualization, monitoring, and operational activities.
Action Scripts
When processing data through the pipeline, there are consistent actions that take place while tables are prepared, loaded, and processed. All of these actions have now been implemented as scripts that are called from the scheduler. This gives you complete control and customization around your architecture!
Certain actions, such as truncating tables, loading tables, post-processing, and so on, are built into the product. You can modify these scripts, as well as create your own actions, that allow you to do any custom processing, as well as integration with any third-party tools. Whether it’s version control, automated testing, logging, promoting packages from dev to QA to prod, validating development and naming standards, or anything else you can imagine. This is now all configurable and integrable with any external tool.
New Look and Feel and Installer
RED 10 comes with a modern look and feel. This is the first phase in a number of UI and UX enhancements planned for RED. This includes a new ribbon-style menu bar, improved menu groupings, and a new icon set.
In addition, the installer has been simplified and unified. All enablement packs are now installed through a GUI-based installer in an easy-to-follow wizard.
And More!
Come see a demo of WhereScape’s RED 10! You’ll be amazed at how quickly you can design and develop complex architectures, whether they are data warehouses, data vaults, data lakehouses, data marts, or anything else!
