Micron struggled to prepare and extract manufacturing big data from 12 separate sites in a short enough time to produce meaningful, timely company-wide business intelligence. Given the inability to deliver data within the requested timeframes, many sites were self-serving and trying to access OLTP data directly, resulting in redundant processes, resource inefficiency, and data integration and performance issues. Projects that did occur were “one-offs”, with no ability to build on to or modify when needed. In short, the data warehousing and analytics solutions developed were not able to keep up with the needs of the business.
To address these challenges, the company used WhereScape® automation to design and build an enterprise data vault utilizing Data Vault 2.0 methodology on Teradata. With automation built specifically to leverage the native capabilities of Teradata, Micron implemented the foundation for their new enterprise data vault within 90 days. Additionally, their team is now able to produce a new prototype within an hour that can be used to evaluate effectiveness with business users before moving a solution into production. Micron now has rapid access an enterprise-wide view of manufacturing big data, and the ability to respond to end user queries and supply the data requested within the same day.
“With WhereScape, we can build a solution from the ground up in an hour. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a prototype is worth a million.
