"We at WhereScape are delighted to be shortlisted in the Computing Digital Technology Leaders Awards for Best Automation Project for our work with South African customer TymeBank.

"As a Data Automation software vendor, we help organisations in almost all verticals speed up processes and use automation as a catalyst for a fresh outlook on working methodologies. However, the TymeBank project caught the eye because of its earnest ambitions in South Africa, where millions of people did not have access to banking facilities due to lack of documentation or lack of mobility to get to a physical branch.

"The TymeBank model, which leverages automation and the potential of Cloud computing, is a great example of how modern technology can allow companies to democratise key services to poorer areas and give affordable access to facilities that many take for granted. Because of our project with TymeBank and our local South African implementation partner, Slipstream, anyone in South Africa can now create a bank account and receive a cash card for free at a kiosk using just their fingerprint.

"While we wait for the board to reach a decision on who will take the award, we would like to wish good luck to the other finalists in this category: Digiterre, DVLA, ITC Infotech, Publicis Sapient & Lloyds Banking Group, Pufferr, Sandhata Technologies Limited, T-Tech and Workiva."

Background on TymeBank

TymeBank had ambitions to unify the data team, lake and warehouse into a single, automated ecosystem to get an instant, holistic view of any customer’s data. This is a great example of a forward-thinking, data-driven strategy.

As the first bank in South Africa to put its core-banking platform in the cloud, TymeBank had the opportunity to choose its ideal architecture using an Open Source Software Strategy built on AWS and Snowflake. WhereScape Data Automation was chosen to tie the stack together, and Slipstream was chosen as the local South African partner.

There’s nothing ordinary about TymeBank. As a digitally smart bank without physical branches, they help South Africans get more and pay less for banking. Sign up with your thumbprint? Why not. Earn rewards with every swipe? You’ve got it. They’ve removed many of the conventional banking barriers to offer a simple suite of tools and services to help South Africans realise their potential. TymeBank offers inclusive and accessible banking via a network of self-service kiosks, an Android app and an Internet Banking site.
