Amazone wanted to rebuild and modernize its data warehouse to achieve accurate BI faster. To do this they had to build a new data warehouse while keeping live reports going on the legacy system. At the same time, the Sage ERP systems of the company’s two main departments, in different cities, had to be combined while adhering to a new set of business rules. The data team of just two internal staff and two consultants were under pressure to find a working solution in just two months.
The answer was to build historical data marts on the new infrastructure using data from the old data warehouse. This would allow them to shut down the old data warehouse instead of managing two simultaneously. There were 150 tables with 300 views to reconcile from two systems that wouldn't match together.
Attempts to achieve this with hand-coding were not as productive as the team had hoped, so they decided to look for a Data Warehouse Automation tool. WhereScape enabled the team to quick combine new and legacy data sources to build a working solution quickly and meet its deadline. Amazone now use WhereScape Data Automation to design, build and manage their Data Vault architecture on SQL Server.
“WhereScape changes the way we work because we can focus a lot more on creating business value. The staging layer is easy to automate which adds stability and saves us a lot of time. It also means failures are excluded, they don't happen.” Tobias Landwehr, Data Warehouse Engineer, AMAZONEN-Werke H. Dreyer GmbH & Co. KG Amazone is a German agricultural manufacturer.
