Finnair are engaged in a data warehouse modernisation project with a switch to Data Vault modelling at its core. The team developed its own automated code generator tool and went looking for an enterprise-grade Data Vault Automation solution to use it in conjunction with. In this way developers could ‘automate the automation’.
After comparing a variety of tools the team was most attracted to WhereScape’s advanced Data Vault Automation capabilities, and travelled to London in February to try WhereScape at a hands-on workshop. Suitably impressed, Finnair bought the software just a few months after.
“We chose WhereScape because of the business-driven approach it offers for data model transformation which enables more involvement and collaboration across teams. It appears not only as a technical tool for data warehousing but as means of communication with stakeholders.
“The integrated data profiling capability helps us understand our sometimes very complex and arcane data sources. We did our market research and watched some product demonstrations but ultimately WhereScape offered the best fit for our architecture.” Jani Väisänen, Senior Data Engineer at Finnair.
Finnair is the largest airline in Finland, employing around 6000 people, with its headquarters in Helsinki and its major shareholder the government of Finland.
